Dear Walker Elementary Staff and Families, I hope this message finds you well as you enjoy your summer vacation. As you may be aware, the district began the search process to identify an interim principal to fill the role following the approval of a one-year unpaid sabbatical of Principal Tiffany Burns for the 2024-25 school year. We are pleased to announce that after a thorough process that included teachers, classified staff, and parents, we have selected our interim principal for Walker Elementary School. Please join us in welcoming J’me Strowbridge as our Interim Principal for the 2024-25 school year. J’me has been an employee with the Ashland School District since 2021. During her time in the district, she has served as a Physical Education Teacher, Ashland Education Association Representative, Recess and Campus Coordinator, and Interim Administrator at Walker Elementary School. Ms. Strowbridge first entered the educational field as a teacher in 2009. She comes highly recommended and we are confident that she will make our community and principal proud as she carries on the traditions of excellence. J’me Strowbridge will officially begin her new role as interim principal at Walker Elementary on August 1, 2024. She has already been working to ensure a smooth transition. Additionally, J’me is excited for the opportunity to engage with staff, parents, and students to ensure a smooth start to the school year. J’me is incredibly excited about the opportunity to serve alongside the educators at Walker and serve this great community as a proud Walker Wolf. We are delighted to share the success of our very first Ukrainian Student Union (USU) meeting, which took place on Tuesday at Walker Elementary School. It was a joyous occasion, marking the beginning of a special journey for our students. The USU is a safe space for students to connect, share their identities, and feel seen and heard. We were so pleased to see the enthusiastic participation and the smiles on the faces of our students as they engaged in various activities. A special thank you to Walker parent, Olha Dubova, for her dedication as the facilitator, and to Ms. Julie for coordinating the event and ensuring everything ran smoothly. We look forward to the continued growth of the USU and the positive impact it will have on our community. Thank you to all the families who support this initiative. The YMCA partnered with Walker School to teach mini basketball clinics to our students! We love our local YMCA! 💙🐺💙

Walker Wolves went to college last Friday! We had a blast at the Southern Oregon University Women’s Basketball game! 🏀 Our choir rocked the national anthem accompanied by the SOU band! Some of our 5th graders were invited to compete in a relay event at halftime! We had so much fun cheering for our Raiders and they won! 💙🐺💙 #HowlWalkerWolves #GoRaiders!

What an amazing experience for our 5th grade Walker Wolves in the BSU at the Black Youth Leadership Summit at Southern Oregon University last Thursday! Joined by students from across Jackson & Josephine counties, we learned together, set individual goals, and strengthened our community connections. 💙🐺💙
