School Nurse and Student Health
Ashland School District is concerned about the health and well being of all students. Child Development Specialists are on-staff at each elementary school and a school nurse and nurse practitioner are on site at AMS and AHS respectively.
Dear Parents,
Thank you for being so diligent in providing the necessary health information at registration. When this information is promptly provided it helps ensure your child's health needs are met and their safety is maintained in the school setting. Additionally, if your child should develop a significant health condition during the school year, please notify the district nurse directly by calling 541-482-1611 ext. 3105. Ashland School District has specific requirements for students returning to school after significant injury or illness. To see the guidelines for return, CLICK HERE.
Just a reminder that all medications (prescription and nonprescription) must be brought to the elementary school office manager in the original container, with written instructions and a parent signature. Self-medication is not allowed in grades K-8, except for asthma inhalers and epi-pens which must still be checked in through the nurse's office.
If you have any questions, concerns or would like to discuss your child's health needs, please call the office manager or school nurse.

URGENT IMMUNIZATION REMINDER
State law requires that all children in public and private schools, preschools, Head Start and certified child care facilities have up-to-date immunizations, or have a religious or medical exemption. Children entering Kindergarten must have at least one dose of each of the required vaccines prior to starting school. Immunizations are available through your medical provider, Jackson County Health Department, and the Ashland Community Health Center.
Click here to visit the Oregon Health Authority web site for more information and a complete schedule of immunization requirements.

Tdap Vaccine - 1 dose
Tdap offers infants and children against three serious diseases: Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (whooping cough). In December 2012, Pertussis in Oregon reached the highest number since the 1953 with 910 cases; this was two times the national average.
If your child does not have the Tdap shot, contact your child's doctor or call the Jackson County Health Department to make an appointment. It is important to get an early start on updating your child's immunizations this fall. Please give all updated immunization information to your school prior to winter vacation or as soon as your child receives Tdap.
If you're under 65 years old, consider talking with your doctor or pharmacist about getting a dose of Tdap for yourself.
Please call the Elementary School Nurse, Belinda Brown, RN at 541-482-1611 Ext. 3105 with any questions.
