Schedule

Helman Elementary features an "open-access" library media center. Students may come to the media center at any time the library is open individually, in small groups, or with their entire class -- to check out and return materials, to read for pleasure or information, to hear stories, or research topics for reports, using a variety of resources.

Check out Policies

Number of Items:
Students are limited to a grade level number of items for which they can be responsible!

Check-Out Time Limit:
Students may keep items for two weeks. Students are encouraged to return the items to the library media center as soon as they are finished so they can check out new ones!

Overdue Fines:
There are no fines; however, students must return overdue items before new items may be checked out.

Lost Books:
Students who lose or damage books beyond repair will be charged the replacement cost of the book. Parents may give permission for their children to check out more books while lost books are being sought by contacting Hazel Smith, Ashland School District Teacher Librarian Student who habitually lose books and do not pay for them will be limited to using books only in the media center.

Making Good Choices

The library media program strives to teach our students to be independent reading consumers. If you notice your child is bringing home materials at an inappropriate high or low level of difficulty, please discuss this with your child.
