Golf Coach: Matt Preston
Practice information:
Monday – Friday @ 4PM-6PM at Oak Knoll.
Please notify Coach ahead of time if you are going to be late or miss practice.
We typically practice outdoors in all weather conditions. Always have appropriate attire for inclement weather.
Cell phones may be used before or after practice. Cell phone use on the course should only happen in the event of an emergency.

Athletic shoes (required) or Golf Shoes

Tournament equipment and attire:
Golf clubs
Team pants or Skort from spirit pack – girls may wear solid, dark color leggings under skort
Team polo shirt, zip up or pullover from spirit pack
Team Rain pants and Jacket from spirit pack
Long sleeve base layer, under polo
Golf shoes (soft spikes only)
Water and snacks
Optional: Golf glove, hat or visor, sweater/vest, sunscreen
No cell phone use during tournament play to prevent disqualification.

Respectful of teammates, coaches, competitors, officials and the course

Maintain good sportsmanship
Act in a way that is mature and maintains the dignity of the game

Cheating: Cheating is unacceptable and reflects poorly on yourself, your teammates, your coaches and your school. Cheating will result in disciplinary action deemed appropriate by Coach and/or the Athletic Director.
Varsity Tournaments: There are typically 5-6 starting positions, depending on the tournament. Varsity level play is meant to be competitive. Players selected to compete in each tournament will be determined by a group of factors; practice performance, practice participation, score at the preceding tournament, and overall skill. Final determination is made at the Coach’s discretion.
JV Tournaments: All golf team members will have numerous opportunities to compete in 9 hole JV tournaments on their home course as well as away.
Varsity Letter Qualifications: Several factors are considered in determining a player eligible for a varsity letter; multiple post and score in varsity matches in a single season, overall season contribution and sportsmanship and season participation. Final determination is made at the Coach’s discretion.
Academics: All players must maintain academic eligibility according to the AHS Academic Policy. If a player becomes ineligible, it is up to the player to rectify the situation with teachers and get cleared by the AHS Academic Advisor.
Outside of Practice Play: Oak Knoll allows AHS golf team participants unlimited range balls and golf outside of practice times at no charge for play Monday through Friday, after 12PM. Players must make a tee time and check in in the clubhouse. It is important that players behave in a way that represent the AHS golf team with the highest of while at the driving range, in the clubhouse and on the course.
AHS PRACTICE GUIDELINES:
Driving range is open at practice daily. Players see coaches for range tokens.
Before playing holes on the course, athletes must be able to:
Demonstrate ability to hit consistently at range with understanding of club distances.
Basic understanding golf rules and scoring.
Ability to chip/putt certain amount of times consistently and timely.
Demonstrate ability to play a practice hole under a certain amount of time. Golfers should understand the importance of speed of play.
Daily practices will include:
Driving range practice including games (head to head competition)
Chipping green practice including games (head to head competition)
Putting practice and games (head to head competition)
Course play in groups
Individual training with coaches
