"Four male track athletes from Ashland High School stand on a podium in first place, each holding medals. They wear red jerseys with 'Ashland' printed on them. The podium is positioned on a track field, with a red tent labeled 'Ashland Grizzlies' in the background. Other athletes and spectators can be seen in the distance, with the grandstand reading 'Southern Oregon' visible."
Last week, our boys and girls tennis teams battled at the Midwestern League Championships. Our girls team were crowned League champions for the second year in a row! Congratulations to Veronica Miller and Claudia Stadtmueller who finished in 1st and 2nd at the meet. Congratulations also goes to our doubles team, Jane Cruce and Alice Pearson-Albano. They were crowned champions! Congratulations also goes out to our head coach, Martin Stadtmueller, who was awarded the Coach of the Year Award. Well done, Coach! All four girls will be competing next weekend at the State Tournament. Good luck to you all! The boys team battled ferociously at the district meet as well. The team was just four points shy of being league champions. Congratulations goes out to Gavin Connegy-Chang who made it to the semifinals and almost made it to the finals after a close, grueling match. Well done, Connor. Good luck at the State Tournament.

On May 13, 2024, Ashland High School proudly unveiled a plaque at the Mountain Avenue Theater in honor of Richard L. Hay, a beloved figure in the theater community. Presented by Betsy Bishop, the ceremony was attended by around 30 community members, including OSF members, actors, theater professionals, students, alumni, and school staff. The AHS community expressed deep gratitude for Mr. Hay's generous donations of time, expertise, and funding for numerous school theater productions, significantly enriching our local arts scene. Richard L. Hay, who has been a cornerstone of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival since 1950, has an impressive legacy as a theater and scenic designer. With over 245 productions and four theater designs to his name, his influence reaches far beyond Ashland. His remarkable work has earned him numerous accolades, including the Oregon Governor’s Arts Award and the Hollywood Drama-Logue Critics Award. We are incredibly thankful for Mr. Hay’s dedication and contributions to our school and the wider theater community. His generosity and passion for the arts have left an indelible mark on all of us, and this plaque serves as a lasting tribute to his outstanding legacy.

"The theatre is opening our final MainStage show with a twist! It will be in the Rose theatre! Come see “The Arkansaw Bear”opening May 17th-25th! Saddened and bewildered at her grandfather's approaching death, Tish runs to her "special tree." There, in a world of fantasy provided by her wish on a star, she meets the world's greatest dancing bear. He is old, like her grandfather, and is running away—from death. In trying to help him, she begins to understand the meaning of both life and death, which helps her to cope with her own sadness. The play blends realism and fantasy, pathos and humor. It is delightfully theatrical, with music, magic and dance. Tickets available online and at the door! Limited seating so get your tickets fast!"
