Ashland High Swim Team
If you did not participate in a Fall sport at Ashland High School, please stop by the Athletic office to be sure you are cleared to participate. No swimmer will be allowed in the pool without clearance - no exceptions.
Practice Times and Expectation
Important Covid notes: Due to covid guidelines, we are not using the locker rooms or showers. Swimmers should arrive at the pool in a swimsuit ready to swim, and will leave the pool without changing out of their suits. Bring a towel or two, and warm clothes that are easy to put on after getting out of the pool. Flip flops, sandals or crocs are handy footwear at the pool. Swimmers must wear a mask when not in the pool, and maintain physical distancing at all times. Lane capacity maximum is 4 per lane, with 2 swimmers at each end. We will adjust lanes and practices as needed to accommodate.
We swim at Daniel Meyer pool in Hunter Park in Ashland from 3:30 - 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Daniel Meyer is outdoors, but the locker rooms and water are heated. Swim caps and shower shoes are recommended for all swimmers to help stay warm.
I expect swimmers to get to the pool as soon as they can once class is finished to be in the water promptly. I will have practice wrapped up on time so swimmers can be out of the locker rooms promptly for pickup. We will not practice on Saturday or Sunday. We will, however, have a few meets that fall on weekends (see schedule for details).
I know there will be circumstances outside of the athlete's control that may keep them after school on some days. As with any planned or unplanned event that will keep the swimmer from participating, I would ask that you make your best effort to contact me as soon as possible. If they are meeting with a teacher, I would like a note. If they are ill or have a doctor's appointment that cannot be scheduled outside practice times, then I would like some sort of communication from parents.
Due to the shared nature of the pool, it is extremely important that swimmers respond when asked to begin or end the workout(s). I will do my best to build in social time, goal discussion time, meet discussion time, and general team building time. When we are at the pool, and the workout has been presented, it's time to swim.
To earn a varsity letter in swimming, swimmers must attend at least 4 practices per week, a majority of meets prior to Districts, and score points at the District meet (points are only scored in finals, on the second day of the meet).
- First day is 5/10/2021
- Last day is 6/18/2021
- 5A League Championships TBD
We will do our best to take as many swimmers as possible to away meets, however seating is limited and we may have to limit our numbers somewhat. I will communicate clearly to the swimmers if/when they are not going. Otherwise, all swimmers should assume they are traveling with the team (JV swimmers included).
Note: to swim in meets, swimmers must be at a minimum of 4 practices per week, including the day before a meet.

Volunteer positions open this year:
- I need someone to coordinate water and snacks (healthy choices they can eat before, during, or after) on meet days with other parents.Snacks for athletes at each meet are extremely helpful, especially on trips to Eugene when we need to leave early in the morning
- We'll need a small group of parents to take on the end of year social/banquet.
All swimmers are to provide for themselves a practice suit and goggles. We will provide hand paddles, fins, kick boards, and pull buoys for the team to use. We are offering a team store
again that each swimmer will be able to order from. There will be a required competition suit for both men and women to purchase (see below).
Although the suits shown come in various color options, please select the Red versions for each. You may choose any style suit you prefer for competition that is RED, one-piece, and does not have zippers, ties, or large printing/logos (all are illegal for competition--including mens' and womens' water polo suits). The one exception is school-specific printing (e.g. logo, school name, school nickname) that is built into the suit, not applied after construction. Additionally, only one suit may be worn at a time during competition; plan accordingly.
