Principal's Message

Happy New Year!  I am excited for 2020.  It just has such a fun ring to it!  Hope everyone had a restful and fun break.
We have many exciting events happening this winter that I am looking forward to.  The MLK Assembly and Re-enactment March will be 1/17.  We will be leaving JMOS promptly at 12:00 to walk to the Ashland High School gym where we will gather with Bellview, Helman, and Willow Wind for an assembly/rally for equity and civic change starting promptly at 12:30.  We will then hit the streets with a march down Mountain Ave to East Main and then up Morse St.  The schools will then disperse and JMOS will head back to campus.  Please join us!  Sage will also be hosting a Community Sing to help everyone get ready for this event the night before from 5:30-6:15 on 1/16 in the Bellview Gym.
All classes will head to Mt Shasta this January and February for some great cross country skiing!  Jim's class will learn some winter camping skills and younger grades will discover Lithia Park in the winter and some ice skating.  We also have a Talent Show coming up on the 24th and Alice DiMicele coming January 29th for a Wednesday Community Sing and to play with the JMOS Band.  This weekly newsletter and classroom newsletters will have more details about these events as they get closer.
Some parents have asked clarifying questions after getting absence or tardy letters in the mail.  There is a great amount of helpful information found in the parent/student handbook which can be found on our website or ask Laura for a hard copy in the office.  JMOS is a regular public school within the Ashland School District that has to abide by the many state and district requirements and policies.  Students are expected to be in their seats, ready to learn at 8:20.  If your child is still arriving, getting a drink, going to the bathroom, at their locker, or talking with friends in the hallway, they most likely are going to be marked tardy by their teacher.
Hope your 2020 is off to a great start!

With love and hope-
Rebecca
