CDS and School Counseling

Hello, my name is Michelle Bolinger and I am the School Counselor and Child Development Specialist at John Muir. I earned my Masters of Science in School Counseling through Oregon State University in June 2017, and I have been a CDS in the Ashland School District for the past 4 years. Prior to my career as a Professional School Counselor, I worked as a Family Advocate for Southern Oregon Head Start and volunteered on several committees which focused on improving the lives and well-being of local children and families. I have two wonderful children, a devoted partner, three dogs, and two cats. I am a Southern Oregon native; I love our local geography and I am passionate about our community and the families who call Southern Oregon their home. I enjoy music, traveling, camping, gardening, cooking (and eating), and spending time with friends and family. I believe in the equity of opportunity for all students and I advocate for systemic changes that will encourage and increase such equity. I place the utmost value on data driven, comprehensive, developmental school counseling programs and evidence-based procedures. I believe in the importance of life long education and strive to remain well informed on the ever-changing realities and responsibilities of my field. I adhere strongly to the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Ethical Standards for School Counselors and prioritize ongoing personal education in this area in particular. I am familiar with, and practice, ethical guidelines surrounding personal wellness, and I clearly recognize the importance of having a positive support system, both personally and professionally. I am passionate about my own cultural competency and growth, as well as the cultural competency of my fellow educators.
