Dear JMMS Families-
Happy Autumn! What a beautiful Fall it has been! I really enjoyed leading the Halloween parade and loved seeing all the students "frozen" in character in their classrooms. What a fun tradition! Thanks to Laurie Green, all the K-1 families, and to our PTC for helping make the celebration a success.
Myself and teachers have kept up on our Monday Morning Circles where each of us rotates to a classroom and holds a proactive circle with the hope of strengthening our connections with students. We have all really enjoyed it and I am learning a great deal about our students and community.
I have found myself talking a lot to students either individually or in small groups about bullying behavior. My sense is there is a lot of misunderstanding around bullying, what it is and how to handle it when it happens. I will be sending some attachments of the talking points our school counselor and myself use when educating students about bullying. The great news is the education that we have started doing already seems to be working! I have seen students problem-solving, sticking up for each other, and coming to adults after they have tried to problem- solve on their own.
Unfortunately, the climate of the nation has put a damper on the usual positive mood I feel at JMMS, but I am not going to let it bring me, our staff, or our students down. Every day we have a choice in what we do with our lives and how we move through the world. We at JMMS have all chosen to be here, helping kids to become their best selves. I am so grateful to be here doing this work every day. I hope, in the coming weeks, we will lean on each other in order to support our students. I feel very fortunate to be in a profession where there is hope and we can make a difference.
