Grasshoppers First Grade Core Lacy - Kim Freeman
The Grasshoppers are going to study the human machine- a machine more amazing than any machine ever invented! Through hands-on activities and investigations and nonfiction reading, students will build understanding of how the body works. We will study the body by looking at its systems and asking questions: How do the parts function? What is the relationship between the parts? How do the parts work together to create a system? Students will also conduct their own Expert Study to become a specialist in a particular aspect of the body that interests them. In March, we will shift gears to social studies as we explore farm systems, with particular focus on the question: What makes a system sustainable? Writing instruction will also take place in Core this year, as we strengthen skills through exploring and producing a variety of texts: short stories, poems, magazines, science journals, etc..
