Welcome to the AMS Cross Country program! We are excited about another year of sharing our love of long-distance running with the children of Ashland. Ashland Middle School competes with teams from the Southern Oregon Middle School Athletic Conference (SOMSAC), and the sport is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.
Our season starts Tuesday, August 30th. We practice every day after school, from 3:15 to 4:45 and we meet on the small grassy area behind the cafeteria. For practice, we sometimes stay on campus, but we also frequently run off-campus, mostly within a mile radius of the school. Our meets are generally on Thursdays and, depending on the location, sometimes students are dismissed early from school. Please see the attached meet schedule for more specifics.
Our goals are to help students develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle and create a life-long passion for running, so we ask students to commit to coming to practice regularly. We understand, however, that students may have other commitments and need to miss some practices. We can work with these special cases as long as the absences are prearranged (see attached pre-excused absence form).
Your child needs to be cleared through the athletic department before he/she can practice with us. Information and registration can be found on the AMS homepage.
If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to meet us at the grassy area behind the cafeteria at 3:15. Additionally, you can reach Coach K by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thanks and we look forward to another great season! Your AMS Cross Country coaches, Karl Pryor, Martha Street, and Austin Wallace
