AHS Speech and Debate Team Wins State

This past weekend, the AHS Grizzlies won the 5A Oregon State Championship! Although records are a little hard to find, we believe that this is the 20th State Championship for the team. Helping us achieve this team success were the 27 students that we brought, and especially some of the following stand-out performances:

- Maya Livni was Ashland's sole 4-year State Qualifier, competing every year that she has been in high school

- Amelia Kahn made it to semifinals (top 14) in After Dinner Speaking

- Nick Hemmerling made it to semifinals (top 14) in Dramatic Interpretation (as a freshman!)

- Sarah Aaronson made it to semifinals (top 14) in Extemporaneous Speaking

- Lilli Morrish won 1st place in Informative Speaking

- Thatcher Houghton made it to octofinals (top 16) in Lincoln Douglas Debate

- Sienna Scoggin and Sarah Aaronson competed in the finals of Parliamentary Debate and won 2nd place

- Sophia Bauer and Amelia Kahn made it to quarterfinals (top 8) in Public Forum Debate

- Lilli Morrish won 3rd place in Radio Commentary

- Ilan Werblow won 4th place in Student Congress (in his first year on the team!)

- Cole Daneman won 1st place in Student Congress

- Cole Daneman was also named the Best Presiding Officer in Student Congress (an honor which is voted on by other students in competition, not by the judges.
